RealWorld Designer

After almost a year, the RealWorld Photos application, while still in beta-phase, is stable enough to be released to the general public. The application is focused on photo retouching and batch image processing. A simple user interface is built on top of a powerful core with a couple of unique functions. The end product is a tool suitable for both beginners and professional photographers.

Main features

• Basic drawing tools - pencil, brush, line, curve, rectangle, ellipse, polygon, flood-fill, selection & transformation, dropper, text.
• Photographer’s tools - crop, red-eye remover, cloning, retouching (brighten, darken, soften, sharpen).
• Basic filters - color adjustments, drop shadow, glow, blur, sharpen, etc.
• Ability to use filters compatible with Adobe Photoshop.
• Display EXIF information.
• Convert among basic image file formats - BMP, JPG, PNG, GIF, JPEG2000, read-only support also for TIFF, PCX, PSD.
• Automatic alpha channel.
• Lossless and partially lossless JPEG modification.
• Customizable menu, toolbars and window layout.
• Use mouse gestures to apply filters, change drawing tools, undo, redo, etc.
• Powerful scripting subsystem - use native filters and drawing tools from JavaScript code to create custom filters and effects.
• Batch processing - apply custom operations on multiple files at once.
• Open interface - create plug-ins to enhance application functionality. RealWorld Photos is (most likely) the most extensible graphic editor out there - plug-ins can add support for more image codecs, operations, menu commands, drawing tools, fill styles, windows, file storage media, wizards and scripting enhancements. SDK will be released in a couple of weeks.

Limitations of the beta version

The “beta” state indicates that the most important features are already in place and working. On the other hand, the application is not finalized and you may experience errors or unexpected behavior. Always keep a backup of the file you are editing.
The beta version will stop working in 2009. A final version is expected to be ready in second half of 2008.
